Its lighthouse is located at the southernmost tip of South Africa &#8211; yes, it&#8217;s not the Cape of Good Hope as some would have us believe! <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Leave the N2 and head inland on Route 62, which is bordered by the Langeberg mountains. On the way, Montagu, a small Victorian spa village with a quaint, old-fashioned charm, is well worth a stop.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Stage 2: Oudtshoorn<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/07\/oudtshoorn-autruches-1024x576.jpg\" alt=\"A group of ostriches on a farm in Oudtshoorn, on the Garden Route.\" class=\"wp-image-4247\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Ostrich farm in Oudtshoorn<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Over magnificent mountain passes, stunning red rocks and the wide-open spaces of the Klein Karoo, lies Oudtshoorn, the ostrich capital. After a visit to an ostrich farm and&#8230; why not indulge in a rodeo, a visit to the Cango Caves is a classic. At 20 million years old, they are well worth a visit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Leave Route 62 (which some compare to the legendary Route 66 in the USA) and join the N2, approaching the coast to admire the wild coastline with its breathtaking scenery! For hiking enthusiasts, there are the trails in Wilderness National Park that take you through the rainforest and its waterfalls. A wetland covering more than 2,500 ha, the park is home to an exceptionally rich flora and fauna.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Next stop, Knysna and its large lagoon! A picturesque, peaceful town, discover the Waterfront and its small, welcoming restaurants, and let yourself be tempted by some oysters. The region is known for its rich marine reserves, home to colonies of dolphins, seals and whales.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Close to Plettenberg Bay is Tsitsikamma National Park*.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>*<em>(Tsitsikamma in Khoisan means &#8220;place full of water&#8221;).<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Let yourself be tempted by a superb seaside stroll over the impressive suspension bridges. If you&#8217;re lucky, you&#8217;ll catch a glimpse of dolphins.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Stage 5: Addo Elephant National Park<\/h3>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/07\/elephant-addo-elephant-park-garden-route-1024x740.jpg\" alt=\"An elephant in Addo Elephant Park, the last stop on our Garden Route road trip.\" class=\"wp-image-4241\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Addo Elephant Park is also home to the other Big 5, including lion, leopard, rhino and buffalo.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p>Take the road back to Port Elizabeth, the end of your journey, but first a short elephant safari!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Last stop: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sanparks.org\/parks\/addo\/tourism\/translation\/default.php?lang_cde=fr\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"Addo Elephant National Park (s\u2019ouvre dans un nouvel onglet)\">Addo Elephant National Park<\/a>, where the elephant is king!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>South Africa&#8217;s third-largest national park, it is home to over 400 elephants, the &#8220;Big Five&#8221;, and multitudes of birds and antelopes.
