OUR COMMITMENTS
Responsible, sustainable and ethical tourism
Our mission at the heart of more responsible tourism
At South African Travellers, we believe in responsible tourism, which cares for the land, local populations and travelers. Our commitments revolve around three main areas: sustainability, social responsibility, and diversity and respect for people. Supported by our entire team, these commitments embody our vision of travel: fairer, more conscious and more human.
Our day-to-day commitments
Environment
Reducing the carbon footprint, promoting renewable energy, reducing waste, and encouraging recycling.
Economy
Supporting responsible financial management, sustainable innovation, and partnerships with ethical suppliers.
Social
Respect for human rights, diversity, inclusion, and active support for local initiatives.
Transparency
Regular dialogue with our partners and clients, and clear reporting of our commitments.
Travelife Partner
South African Travellers has received the Travelife Partner award, a recognition of our commitment towards social and environmental sustainability. We comply with more than 100 criteria related to sustainability management, office operations, working with suppliers and customer communication. We are working towards further improvements aiming to eventually reach the Travelife Certified stage.
Travelife is a three-stage certification program for tour operators and travel agents:
- Travelife Engaged
- Travelife Partner
- Travelife Certified
South African Travellers is currently at stage 2 – Travelife Partner.

Sustainability policy
At South African Travellers, we believe travel is not only an enriching experience, but also a responsibility. Our sustainability policy reflects our commitment to promoting more conscious and respectful travel across Southern Africa.
Our commitments on a daily basis:
- Protecting ecosystems and biodiversity
- Supporting local communities and economies
- Working with responsible and committed partners
- Reducing waste and single-use plastics
- Encouraging responsible consumption
- Promoting wildlife-friendly excursions
- Raising awareness around sustainable travel
- Encouraging responsible internal practices
- Supporting more sustainable mobility solutions
- Promoting a more ethical and conscious way of travelling
This approach is part of our ongoing commitment to continuous improvement and guides every experience created by South African Travellers.
Our solidarity initiatives
and local initiatives
Conscious of the impact of tourism, we make a contribution to two local NGOs for each trip booked. We also choose to work only with suppliers who respect their employees, support their communities, and share our values of fairness and sustainability.
HBUFC – More than a club,
a community project
Care Cruisers –
actions in the heart of Cape Town
Founded in 2016, Care Cruisers NPC works in Cape Town to create a bond of solidarity between the homeless and the city’s residents. Every week, the association distributes meals, relief packages and basic necessities, while offering a moment of listening and comfort. Beyond material aid, Care Cruisers embodies a profoundly human approach: reminding everyone that they are seen, respected and worthy of attention.
An evolutionary approach
Our commitments are not set in stone. We regularly re-evaluate our policy to adapt it to the realities of the tourism sector and to environmental issues. This continuous improvement also relies on the active involvement of our teams, partners and customers.
